1. Check Airflow
- Make sure the air filter is clean and free of any blockages, as this may restrict air flow.
- Make sure that all the vents of the AC through which air flows are open and there is nothing blocking their path. If there is furniture, curtains or any other obstruction in front of the vent, then the air will not flow properly. This will affect the cooling of the AC and will also put more pressure on the machine. Therefore, it is important that the air path is absolutely clean and open.
- Check whether the blower fan of the AC (which sends air in and out) is working properly or not. 2. Inspect Refrigerant Levels
- If ice is forming on the pipes of the AC, it is possible that the cooling gas in it has reduced. This often happens when gas is leaking from somewhere. When the gas is low, the AC is not able to cool properly and the internal parts become cold and start freezing. Therefore, if this is happening, then it should be checked immediately by a technician.
- If you think your AC is leaking cooling gas, don’t try to fix it yourself. In such cases, it’s best to call an experienced HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) technician. Only he can correctly check where the gas is leaking from and how to fix it.
3. Clean the Evaporator Coil
- If dust or dirt accumulates on the evaporation coils inside the AC, the air cannot flow properly. Due to which the flow of air stops, the coils can become very cold and freeze. This weakens the cooling of the AC and puts more pressure on the system. Therefore, it is very important to get these coils cleaned from time to time.

4. Check Condensate Drain Line
- If the condensate drain line (water drainage pipe) gets blocked or jammed, the water accumulated in the AC or refrigerator cannot drain out. Due to this, the water accumulates and sometimes it can even freeze.
- Make sure that there is no blockage in the water drain pipe and that the place where water collects is not overflowing
5. Defrost the AC Unit
- If there is already ice on the AC pipes, then turn off the AC and let the ice melt completely.
- After the ice melts, just run the AC fan so that the remaining ice gets removed and the air can flow properly.
